VICE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Colleagues,

New MExic Chiropractic AssociationThis past week I had a reminder of how chiropractic practice has changed over the past 31 years, a change that has its supporters and its opponents.

An elderly couple came into my office as new patients. As I was taking their medical histories we fell upon the subject of medications and past surgical procedures. As we talked I found out that Bill and Virginia do not take any medications and have avoided the need for surgery with the exception for Virginia while giving birth to their three children. Since most patients in their late sixties are on at least one or two medications or more, I asked why do they believe they do not need medications.

The answer was straight forward and to the point. Bill and Virginia have a regular exercise program that they follow and try to eat right. They have also been under the care of different Doctors of Chiropractic for the past 47 years. Virginia told me that they learn something new from each DC that they have seen over the years and incorporate that knowledge into their daily activities.

Wow, some Doctor of Chiropractic, 47 years ago, took the time and effort to educate Bill and Virginia on how to take care of their health by getting regular adjustments, eating right and exercising. One DC making a difference, making a difference in Bill and Virginia’s lives, and making a difference in the practice of chiropractic.

So, here we are 47 years later. Are there only a few DC’s making a difference in the lives of their patients and the practice of chiropractic or are their many DC’s trying to “Make a Difference.” Where do you stand?

Make a Difference. Support the NMCA by becoming a member. I was encouraged by the recent member support for the PAC by DCs signing up on the E-Z Pay Plan. Make a difference by supporting the NMCA Legislative Agenda to move the practice of Chiropractic, in New Mexico, into the 21st century.

Dr. M. E. Brown, DC
Vice-President
